All our stone products can be ordered with a variety of finishes: polished, bush hammered, combed, brushed, honed or sandblasted. Ask us for a sample.

Honed

The surface of the stone is ground to a smooth matte or satin finish that is not reflective like a polished stone. It is suitable for walking surfaces or other areas where high use would wear away a polished surface. Honed and filled finishes are usual for travertine where surface holes are filled with cement or epoxy.

Polished

In most cases polishing can only be done on crystallized stones although the density of some Dalski Stone sandstones does allow for polishing. This finish is very smooth and can have mirror like reflectivity and be more resilient to staining. A polished finish will not affect the porosity of the stone and may prove slippery as a walking surface.

Chiselled

Chiselled finishes have a rough, natural look as opposed a sawed or machined finish. The rough surface is created by a skilled hand, a wide chisel and hammer.

Antique

This stone finish is created when the surface is tumbled with sand, pebbles or steel bearings to create a weathered, aged finish. It is most suitable for external application.

Bush hammered

Bush hammered finishes can appear similar to sandblasted with the main difference being that the former can usually applied to only one surface, whereas sand can be blasted at 2 or more surfaces simultaneously. Additionally the texturing produced by the bush hammer can produce patterns unlike the random sandblasted texture.

Sandblasted

This finish sits between a chiselled and honed finish in terms of roughness. The surface is sandblasted with steel shot or sand and removes any saw marks and applies an even but lightly textured finish.
